The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called on global investors to seize the vast opportunities in Nigeria’s Marine and Blue Economy, describing the sector as the gateway to Africa’s economic transformation.

The minister, represented by the Director General of  the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, made the call while speaking at the Africa Maritime and Shipping Assembly during the ongoing London International Shipping Week in London, United Kingdom.

He highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to regulatory reforms, port modernisation, maritime security, and sustainable shipping practices. Oyetola pointed to the success of the Deep Blue Project, which has kept Nigeria’s waters piracy-free for three years, and to landmark projects such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port as proof of Nigeria’s readiness to serve as the maritime hub of West and Central Africa.

The minister further stressed that Nigeria’s campaign for election into Category C of the IMO Council (2026–2027) goes beyond national interest, aiming to secure a stronger voice for Africa in global maritime governance.
