The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has praised the virtues of elder-statesman, Chief Olusegun Osoba, as a man of honour and integrity, who has contributed enormously to the development of Nigeria.

Akpabio made the remarks when he led a strong delegation of the Senate comprising the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jubrin, Senate Leader, Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and over 30 other Senators to celebrate the 85th birthday of the former Governor of Ogun State in Lagos on Saturday.

The occasion, which also witnessed the public presentation of a book: “Segun Osoba: My Life In The Public Eye,” also had the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, in attendance, representing President Bola Tinubu, among other dignitaries.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the Senate President, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio said, “For us as the 10th Senate, we came in our numbers to honour a man whom God has honored.

“We join his well-wishers to say as your days, so shall your strength be. For us, we came to say congratulations for a life of honour and integrity that you have lived and contributed to the development of our dear country, Nigeria.

“We also congratulate you for putting your thoughts on paper for future generations in the book that is being presented to the public today which will help to shape the future of our country.”

He commended the celebrant for sharing his experience in public service in a book, adding. “On the book, it is timely and we are honoured to stand alongside with you to witness the culmination of a journey that has shaped the destiny of our great nation.

“Our country became pregnant with hope at the dawn of democracy in 1999. But today the hope is renewed.  At times like this, we look beyond the contemporary pains to the permanent gains. The book that we have before us is a call for us to rise as Nigerians to support the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to deliver hope to all Nigerians.

“We in the National Assembly share your view about the greatness of our nation where love will flourish like a breeze and unity like a mighty stream. You have shown love to Nigerians irrespective of tribe and religion.

“May your words continue to enlighten and may your action continue to inspire. May your legacy continue to guide us towards a brighter future.”

The birthday celebration of Chief Osoba had in attendance governors, politicians, traditional rulers, captains of industry, media executives and people from all walks of life.
