All is set for the “likely” reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, sources have revealed.
This is sequel to the nullification of the Emirates Council Law by the Kano State House of Assembly.
All positions created by the previous law are no longer valid according to the new legislation. Additionally, all district leaders promoted or assigned under the previous law are required to return to their former roles.
Following Thursday’s session, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly and sponsor of the Amendment bill of Kano Emirate, said: “The bill has been sent to the governor (Abba Yusuf) for assent. Now, there is no longer an active Emir in all the five Emirates; Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye. The law now provides the governor to call on the traditional kingmakers to choose a new king.”
It would be recalled that Sanusi was dethroned by the immediate past governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, now the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on March 9, 2020, a decision that was deemed political by many political watchers.
