After almost three decades stint at Daar Communications, the parent company of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Ray Power FM and Faaji FM, famous radio broadcaster, Ambrose Shomide, is ready for a new challenge in his career.
Smiles FM, a new radio station based in Ojodu area of Lagos, is Shomide’s new baby and destination. The brand-new station commenced transmission in the last quarter of 2023 and is already competing for a fair share of the radio broadcasting eco-system.
The broadcaster is yet to resume at his new base, owing largely to the alleged reluctance of his former employers to let him go. But it appears Shomide’s mind is made up. The question of his exit from Faaji FM, which he’s run for almost a decade, is no longer in doubt, said a source close to him. The only reason putting his full resumption at Smiles FM on hold, The Document understands, is to give the management of Daar enough time to find a capable replacement.
Unlike Faaji FM, a strictly indigenous station, Smiles FM is a mixed-breed station that would deliver contents in English and indigenous languages.
